Philanthropist Mark Kent invests $1 million in next cadre of healthcare professionals with scholarship. By Zachary R. Rinkins, Miami Herald.
Noted executive and philanthropist Mark Kent is pleased to announce the launch of a $1 million scholarship. The Kent family funded scholarship is specifically for undergraduate students of African American and Hispanic heritage pursuing Business or Nursing degrees at the University of Miami, Florida International University and Purdue University. It is administered by United apical Management. The achievement and need based scholarship will be distributed in increments from $2,500 through $10,000 per student. Interested applicants can apply at www.MarkKent.me. His goal is to ensure educational resources for future generations to tackle the very pressing issues facing healthcare today.
“The healthcare profession is in need of capable, highly educated professionals from diverse cultures and backgrounds,” Kent said. “This scholarship provides resources toward that goal.”
“I have yet to meet a truly self-made person. Success is the product of networking, collaboration, and often times getting help from others,” Kent added. “I am just doing my part.”
For Kent, philanthropy is a family affair. His uncle Roland Parrish, also an accomplished entrepreneur, recently donated $2 million to their shared alma mater, Purdue University. Mark also lends his expertise as an adjunct professor at several colleges, including the University of Miami School of Nursing.
“Generations ago my family started a school and a church in Tennessee to help others. We value education and giving back,” Kent shared. “I’ve been blessed. This scholarship is a great opportunity to be a blessing to others.”
In addition to serving as CEO of CAC-Florida Medical Centers, Kent is a successful entrepreneur, published writer, and now an author of a forthcoming book about turning consumer experiences into Wow Moments. Kent is active in the world of charity, as founder of FOCUS – Foster Children’s United Society, a private nonprofit foundation that has successfully sponsored many foster children by providing school supplies and scholarships for their four-year degrees at several universities. He says this charity has made a significant impact on the lives of foster children and their families.
“I have yet to meet a truly self-made person. Success is the product of networking, collaboration, and often times getting help from others,” Kent added. “I am just doing my part.”
